Question :

What is the best Book/educational resource to help parent a Child with ADHD?

A good friend s child (4 years old) was diagnosed with ADHD and she is freaking out, I wanted to get her a book or something to help her understand ADHD and even better how to parent a child with ADHD any good suggestions?
Answer :
I don t know any titles of good books but the best place to get them is....go to like a Borders and go to the psychology/ self help section and there will be lots of choices. I have ADHD....let her know it s treatable and could go away with time....it s not necessarily a life long problem. It can also be managed with medication. Tell her not to worry.
Question :

Anyone who has a diagnosed ADHD child, What is the best Book/educational resource to help the child?

A good friend s child (4 years old) was diagnosed with ADHD and she is freaking out, I wanted to get her a book or something to help her understand ADHD and even better how to parent a child with ADHD any good suggestions?
Answer :
Every book has a different theory. Consistency and patience are the keys. Stand up for the child in school and make them recognize that he has a disability. This way the school must give him an education instead of branding him in the category of unable to learn. My grandson is on medication and is doing beautifully. Now he is not yelled at, no longer do kids make remarks because he couldn t sit still. etc. At 8 years old he is catching up and reading well. At 6 he did not know his colors or how to write his name. This is not because he isn t intelligent, it s because he could not concentrate for more than a few seconds. He is a success story. A very smart boy who can read.
Question :

Can someone help me understand ADHD better?

I have an acquaintance with ADHD (confirmed). In all honesty she is absolutely crazy, hyper and never stops talking. She has all the symptoms pretty much. However, she curses all the time and always tell stories like "one time..." and "oh my gosh I know..." when by the time she s done telling the story I know it s a load of BS because it doesn t make sense. What she says is ridiculous I don t know if she s lying to me intentionally or seriously just can t think straight enough to remember anything. She ll saying something like "oh yeah my uncle came in from Jersey yesterday and he called to tell me at 10pm last night and I told him to go **** himself because I m sleeping." Come on! Who would do that?
Her choice in men is weird as well. I know that differs among everyone but, it s weird.

Is there more than just ADHD wrong with her or is that a "symptom" too?
Answer :
Do a Google search for Asperger s Syndrome and Tourette s Syndrome, and see if the symptoms match the way your friend behaves. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder only fits part of what your friend is doing.
