Question :

Will completely giving up caffeine help my anxiety disorder and improve my personality?..the details follow?

I was diagnosed Obessive Compulsive Disorder and depression over ten years ago, and been switched between different antidepressants that began to lose effectiveness on me. So, right now, the only thing I take is 10mg Lexapro but want off of it. I m also rewinding back to when I started consuming caffeine and to come to think of it, that was over ten years ago, around the same time I got diagnosed with OCD--so, I m having an apithany here and that is if I completely give up caffeine, will my anxiety be greatly improved to the point that I no longer need medication?? It s cause I heard so many instances that caffeine consumption can aggrevate and worsen anxiety disorders and it s not recommended for people with anxiety disorders and IBS. I even heard switching to decaf isn t very effective cause it can contain up to half the amount of caffeine that a full regular cup of coffee has. I consume one cup of regular coffee everyday. I am determined to completely cut caffeine out of my diet for my New Years Resolution 2009 and also get back up to par with my exercise routine. I wonder if giving up caffeine will improve my personality?
You see, the following life situations in the past six months have made my anxiety worse and I want to give up caffeine for these reasons:

--I graduated college last May in graphic design--and I ve been freaking out with the job search. The job I have now is only seasonal, temporary, as an assistant manager that does airbrush work at Six Flags, so I m out of work in the winter. If the job market keeps failing me, I m going back to work there next year. For the past three months I ve done nothing but put out resumes and samples along with taking an internship-like class that starts in mid January. I ve had a few interviews, but no offers, even though I followed up--and no, I didn t screw up in the interviews, I acted very appropriate and smiled. When I give up caffeine, I ll be more calm about this failure going with the flow and I ll attract a better job a lot quicker.

--In an earlier post, I explained how I was in the Amway/Quixtar business, and was getting discouraged, anxious as an IBO. The business wasn t right for me, I thinks it s a cult, where the more you pressure and recruit people to sell, the more money you ll make; which is bullsh*t practices--my upline and I weren t getting along. I told him that I couldn t afford to keep investing in products, driving around selling, and going to hotel meetings when I m busy looking for a better job and building a graphic design business with my friend. It s tough since I lack relevant design experience; I only have one internship, most graphic jobs today require 3-5 years of agency experience. My upline told me that I haven t found a better job yet because of my personality (I worry alot) and that I m not grown up yet since I still live at home, plus he told I had to be aggressive and harass employers to get my dream job. I told him that there s a difference between being enthusiastic and annoying in that situation, and then he politely said that I was being a douchbag, a pussy--so for the sake of my future, I must give up caffeine to improve my personality.

--My worsened anxiety is negatively affecting the relationship with my boyfriend. He tends to worry because of my self defeating behavior. Cutting out the caffeine can improve this.

Giving up caffeine--really worth it? I appreciate anyone s input on this. Sorry for such a long post. Merry Christmas everyone! ;)
Answer :
Wow. I didn t read all of it. Caffeine is hard to kick. Once beaten your personality/outlook does improve. But I ve got to warn you, read up on it yourself, caffeine is crack in terms of addiction. You will go through withdraw and be a cranky ***** for a while. Which is why I still drink coffee.

In terms of the economic times and the job search, etc. I am totally feeling you there. My suggestions with that are 1) lower your expectations: sure, you re out of college and expected to land a career job. But is it totally necessary for that to happen right now? This advice might sound crazy but we are facing bad times in the economy and bad time to have no experience. Time will pass and experience will develop. You don t have to start the dream job next week. It will come whenever it comes.

2) This is what I did. I got my BBA in Accounting and realized that I don t really possess any useful knowledge or skills. So I said to myself you were duped by the college, you thought all you needed was a degree and boy are you wrong. So I took the GMAT and applied for grad school. For you it s probably the GRE. I called it an investment in myself and borrowed from the government all the funds necessary to go to grad school. I finished grad school and am very happy with my decision. Consider it.

Also, listen to the advice of your family and boyfriend, the love you and care for you.
Question :

What unhealthy food should i give up next?

I don t do drugs, smoke or drink alcohol.
I don t drink coffee or caffeine, or soda.
I don t eat meat.
This new year i would like to give up something else to benefit my health.
I am thinking candy, but i would like to know what is really unhealthy that i should give up eating?
Answer :
I m surprised you gave up meat BEFORE candy! you need meat if you want protein and muscle, thats why vegetarians are always bone thin. They sit around eating candy all day and say MEAT IS BAAAAD! and then their always sick.(some of course are like this, not all)

unless you want to be bone thin
remember, meat gives you protein, which is good for you. try venison(deer meat) it has no fat in it.
