A film produced by Young Researchers from Arden School: Aidan Allen and Natalya Constantinou. The judges praised Natalya and Aiden for their:"good use of research to indicate the reason for asking their question, and strong focus on the question of how technology can help people with disability." The panel commented that they were: "not initially sure of asking people if social networking could help Beth - had expected the focus would be on the thoughts of the character with the disability. But wow, what responses - "Websites like that are supposed to be happy." I think maybe it's only once we find out how people really feel about things that we can do something about it, and this group certainly did that." The panel concluded that the: "Only disappointment was the lack of time in the video to analyse the comments they got - what the implications were, why people felt that way etc.". Overall an excellent piece of film making by a talented pair of researchers.

Commonly question about How are young people with mental illness treated on social networking websites?

Question :

How common is mental illness among young people since they like musicians who?

mentally ill such as kurt cobain, nine inch nails, joy division , and emo music
Answer :
Mental illness is extremely common these days; especially depression and anxiety. It seems like half the people I know are taking an anti-depressant or something similar.

I m not sure if it s any more common than it was in the past; it s just that most people back in 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s probably got drunk a lot if they were depressed. So they were called "drunks" instead of "depressed."

I have chronic depression and anxiety, my brother has bipolar disorder and I have cousins who also have mood disorders.

Some people say modern life is very conducive to isolation, anxiety and depression. Many people have unrealistic goals of success and fame, especially when they are young. I think earlier generations were more realistic in general.

In addition, maybe we just talk about mental illness more than we used to.

Most research on mental illness seems to agree that it is usually caused by a combination of heredity and situational factors. It can also be caused by physical illness, brain injury or drug abuse.

Many mentally ill people are also drug abusers, and it s often difficult to tell which is the main problem; do they take drugs because of mental illness or is it the other way around?

Worked in mental health since 1987, treated for depression and anxiety since 1983, although I probably had severe depression since childhood (1960s) that went untreated.

It turned me crazy.
Question :

Mental illness and creativity?

Can anyone explain the link between really creative people who die young to mental illness? Do the two go hand in hand? I ask this with people in mind like Jim Morrison, Phyliss Hyman, Janis Joplin, Vincent Van Gogh, Donny Hathaway, Kurt Kobain, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, Karen Carpenter and a host of others who gave us some wonderful blasts of their creativity but who left this way earth too young.

Is there some kind of link between people who are super talented and creative people and mental illness?

What is it inside these people s minds that made them "different" from all the rest?

Some of them were sad, why? Why couldn t they be convinced of their own value and how much happiness they brought to us through their gifts?

Why did some of them push the limits (some through drug use) until they brought about their own demise?
Answer :
I believe that all mentally ill are creative in some way or another, i find creativity and mental illness go hand in hand and i think the two together are a dangerous but beautiful thing.
