Commonly question about The Way to Understand Mood Disorders

Question :

I have schizo-affective disorder, does this mean that I actually have schizophrenia with mood disorders too?

I know the difference between the two illnesses but I am trying to find a way to break it down to my family so that they can understand. Things have to be spelled out. So is my question considered to be correct or is it more involved than that?
Answer :
Schizoaffective disorder is a condition where one experiences symptoms of schizophrenia such as delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech or behavior, or negative symptoms (diminished energy, will, etc.), while, during the same time period, one experiences a major depressive, manic, or mixed episode.

Just say it like that.
Question :

How can our culture/society explain the huge problem with mood disorders. Depression.??

What has been happeneing in the last fifty years? the last 100? Have we expanded technologically beyond what we are capable of individually understanding and controlling??. Do we have too many choices in this life? Have we lost the way---our primal selves are creating the mood disorders as a way to combat the unnatural techno world we have created and perpetuate??

Think of this...I do know Socio-economically we have technology that the average family cannot purchase without encuring debt..... here in the US most of us can t afford the new gadgets being offered to us. Do we really need all this stuff? Time to simplify and then I feel we will be more free. Back to the basics folks. One computer one cell phone one camera. hmmm one flat screen...hmmm see it s hard.

All my pts have mood disorders. all my neighbors too. All I have to do really is engage them in a conversation ..and It comes to the surface. ah well. thanks for your observations. :)
Answer :
Yes Lori, I think the answer lies in your question, get rid of junk. Good sign that you are looking at the positive sides of things around you.
A good question, with an answer in it, I think we are living in a world of virtual realty.to sum up the whole story.

Question :

Do you feel like society is blind to teen mood disorders?

I am an 18 yr old girl, I have a strong belief that I have a mood disorder of some type, as well as depression.
I feel like no one understands or even gets the tiniest hint that I m sad and depressed. And Its so damn hard to express it because I am shy.
Society is effing blind, I swear. I know there are more young ladies out there that feel this way... and I m trying to reach out to you. Does anyone else feel this way?
I feel so alone, I just need to hear from people who understand..
The depression is killing me. :(

Thanks.
Answer :
I went through the exact, same thing. And honestly, if you don t stand up for yourself, it *could* kill you. Females, especially as teens, go through ups and downs, so society just chalks it up to normal kinda stuff, unless
Go to your family doctor and speak as frankly as you can.
Good luck.
EDIT - I just want you to know that I went through this. It started at 14 but I wouldn t talk about it til my dad intervened at 17. (He was awesome.) It saved my life. Today, there s so much more they know than they used to. It is totally treatable. Take care of yourself. You re worth it. (Your future children thank you!)
